1 Medication Cart Preparation Checklist Prior to beginning to dispense medications, prepare your work area ( Medication cart, Medication room or Medication counter.). Start with a clean area. Make sure all appropriate surfaces have been sanitized. Make sure the area is as well lit as possible. Gather all the supplies you will need for this Medication pass. The Medication cart or work area should be stocked with supplies: Medication Administration Record (MAR). Alcohol wipes Alcohol-based hand rub or hand wipes Clean Gloves in your size Surgilube Band-Aids Tape and gauze Pill cutter Pill crusher or Mortar and pestle Tissues Tongue blades Spoons Disposable drinking cups Straws Souffl cups Measured plastic cups and other devices for measuring liquid medications such as oral syringes or metered/measured Medication droppers or spoons, as needed Water pitcher filled with fresh water Juices and any food products used needed in giving medications 03132014.
