2 Delivers effective protection against airborne and surface threatsusing the proven RIM-7 NATOSEASPARROW Missile . As the latest upgrade to the MK 29 GMLS, the MK 29 MOD 4allows the launcher to launchthe RIM-162 EvolvedSEASPARROW Missile (ESSM). The RIM-162 ESSMhas proven itself against abroad spectrum of airborneand surface threats. Thesethreats include subsonic andsupersonic missiles that arriveat steep dive angles or low sea-skimming altitudes and are aided in their penetrationby low radar cross section, evasive maneuvering and electronic jamming.

3 Smallboats can also be neutralizedby the RIM-162 LethalityWith a capacity of up to eightready ESSMs, the MK 29 MOD 4 significantly increasesthe lethality of the MK 29 GMLS. In addition, the missiles can be launched with minimal intervalsbetween each salvo. Developedby Raytheon and the , the MK 29 MOD 4 hasundergone a rigorous qualifi-cation and has been selected to defend the Navy aircraftcarrier fleet. The MK 29 MOD 4 is currently in GrowthThe Raytheon s MK 29 GMLS design has allowed it to becontinuously upgraded andimproved.

4 Its open architectureensures successful integrationto fire control systems andallows for easy future softwareupgrades. The MK 29 GMLScan be initially fielded forRIM-7 and upgraded for ESSM at a later date with nomodifications to the System LauncherController (SLC) is a program-mable processor responsible for launch sequencing andlauncher pointing. It also hosts the Common MissileLibrary, the NATO consor-tium s technical standard forengagement management ofRIM-7 and ESSM. In addition, the SLC provides the digitalinterface to the Fire ControlSystem and can be adapted to any format of the user schoosing.
