3 HUNTING SEASONS. New regulations are listed below. Have a safe and enjoyable hunt. NEW FOR 2017. Deer DNR will collect tissue samples for Chronic Wasting Disease testing in central, north-central and southeast counties. CWD sample submission is mandatory in these areas during the first two days of the firearm season and all seasons in deer permit area (DPA) 603. See page 64. Deer permit area boundaries in the northeast have been changed to better reflect where deer and moose are on the landscape. See the back of the fold out map. Deer feeding is prohibited in areas where chronic wasting disease has been detected in captive deer.

4 This includes all of Aitkin, Crow Wing, Kandiyohi, McCleod, Meeker, Morrison, Stearns, Wright and portions of Cass, Mille Lacs and Renville counties. See page 84. Deer feeding and deer attractants continue to be prohibited in southeast counties surrounding zone 603. This includes Fillmore, Houston, Mower, Olmsted and Winona counties. There are also special deer HUNTING regulations in deer permit area 603. See page 84. The bag limit for deer in intensive management areas is now three. See page 70. Any hunter may use a scope on their muzzleloader during the muzzleloader deer season.

5 No permit is required. Blaze pink can now be substituted for blaze orange. See page 32. In a portion of northwest Minnesota , portable stands may be left overnight on wildlife management areas from November 1 through December 31. See the back of the fold-out deer season map. A late firearm antlerless deer hunt is proposed in several southeast permit areas. See page 71. An increased fee for deer licenses takes effect in 2018. After a deer season is open, a bonus permit is valid the same day of purchase if it is purchased before legal shooting hours.

6 Small Game A new sharp-tailed grouse zone with a reduced season length is in effect in the northeast. See page 42. Long-tailed and short-tailed weasels are now protected species. The seasons can be found on page 44. There is no bag limit.
