This workshop will focus on the newest revision of the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity code (MITI ). Participants will learn to evaluate segments of MI practice using both global measures and specific behavior counts. The training will cover all aspects of the coding system although more attention will be given to advanced elements. Who should attend? This workshop will be especially useful for those who have previously used the MITI 3 and wish to transition to using the MITI 4.

2 Novice coders (those who have no experience using the MITI) are also appropriate for this workshop. What will I learn? 1) The rationale for revising the MITI including how this changes scores and expectations in Treatment and research settings 2) How to use the global ratings to evaluate the relational and technical elements of MI 3) How to count and evaluate specific behaviors that are desirable and prohibited in MI 4) Ideas for providing feedback from the MITI for MI learners 5) Methods for establishing, evaluating and maintaining reliability in coding groups Will I get personal attention? This workshop will feature didactic material, role-play exercises, video and audio examples, and coding of samples. Enrollment will be limited to 40 people. Both trainers will be present all day, each day to provide opportunity for personal attention to every participant.

3 Will CEU s be awarded for this training? We offer 13 hours of Continuing Education Credits from the New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Practice Board. You may use your CEU documentation from this workshop to apply for CEU credits from the accrediting board in your state, for your profession. Page2 Who are the instructors? Denise Ersnt, , Psychologist and Motivational Interviewing Trainer and Consultant. She is part of the research team that developed the Motivational Interviewing Skill code (MISC) and the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity Coding system. (MITI). She is an adjunct professor at the Portland State School of Social Work. Dr. Ernst leads an international coding team that provides MI coding for the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers, research and implementation efforts, and practitioner skill development.

4 Theresa B. Moyers, , Clinical Psychologist and Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Moyers research focuses on the training of therapeutic skills as well as identifying causal mechanisms of Motivational Interviewing . She and her research team developed the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity Coding System (MITI). She is the producer of the DVD series (Miller, Moyers & Rollnick, 2012) for the 3rd edition of the MI book. How much will this training cost?
