9 A. C-M(2003)37-AS1, 22 May 2003 - nato Policy for Standardization of Terminology B. Directive on the nato Terminology Programme (pending approval) C. Guidance on nato Terminology (in preparation) BACKGROUND 1. In 1993, to assist the nato Terminology Coordinator (TC) with the updating of AAP-15, the nato Terminology Conference established the AAP-15 Ad Hoc Working Group (AAP-15 AHWG) chaired by CINCCHAN/CINCEASTLANT. 2. With the advent of the nato Standardization Agency (NSA) CC-Mar HQ Northwood, then called CINCCHAN/CINCEASTLANT, was confirmed officially as the custodian of the publication.

10 As indicated in the Directive on the nato Terminology Programme, the NCS agreed to restructure the NSA AAP-15 AHWG as a standing NSA working group called the NSA Abbreviation Staff Group (NASG). Current membership of the NASG is at Annex B. 3. The NASG has extensively revised AAP-15(2004)REV1 to reflect nato s continuing transformation. Many obsolete entries have been removed or modified as required. However, these and other historical data will be available for consultation in the nato Terminology Management System (NTMS).
