Offers a fixed mount option for front, front/back, and center mounting Provides sliding rail mount option for easy servicing and replacementAn Incrementally Scalable Rack-Optimized STORAGE SolutionThe Netra st d130 STORAGE ARRAY is a rack-optimized unit that houses three hot-swappable disks and is ideally suited formany applications, including: Small-to-medium sized databases Boot devices for rack mounted servers Disk arrays for high availability anddata mirroringThe Netra st d130 STORAGE ARRAY conformsto an extremely compact form factor one rack unit ( inches) in height, by19 inches in depth. Despite its small size, the Netra st d130 STORAGE ARRAY is a pow-erful STORAGE solution that is capable ofsupporting 18 to 109 gigabyte capacitieswithin a single unit.

Up to two units canbe daisy chained together for a totalcapacity of 218 Netra st d130 STORAGE ARRAY helpsusers to maximize rack density and mini-mize the use of valuable vertical space inInternet Data Centers, Enterprise DataCenters, and Telco Central Offices. Serviceproviders and Telcos, in particular, arebeginning to measure the cost of eachrack unit of space. Products that occupyless space are essentially less expensiveto operate and maintain. Potential applications for the Netra stD130 STORAGE ARRAY include hot-swappableexternal disk STORAGE solutions for rackmounted servers ( , small-to-mediumsized databases), hot-swappable bootdisks for larger servers, hot-swappablemirrors of the system and data disks forrack mounted servers, and incrementallyscalable STORAGE subsystems for applica-tions that grow over BRIEFNETRA st d130 STORAGE ARRAY APPLICATION BRIEFS erviceability FeaturesThe Netra st d130 STORAGE ARRAY offers theflexible STORAGE options and the easyserviceability features required by the ServiceProvider, Enterprise and Telco industries.

Theunit supports: Up to three hot-swappable disks perenclosure The drives can be removedand replaced while the unit is running. High performance 18 or 36 gigabyte10,000 RPM disks Simplified field replaceable units (FRUs) Auto-termination for easy serviceability Traditional SCSI devices rely on SystemAdministrators to install a terminator onthe device at the end of a SCSI bus. Theauto-termination feature automaticallydetects whether the unit is the device atthe end of the bus. If this is the case, it ter-minates the bus. Dual host support for clustering UltraSCSI single-ended host connection Dual SCSI connectors Status LEDs on the front and back of the unit Activity LEDs for each disk Labeling area for easy identification and serviceabilitySystem Monitoring Software forBetter Site Management and Up-TimeThe Netra st d130 STORAGE ARRAY is shippedwith the STORAGE Subsystem Manager (SSM)software which runs on the host server andmonitors the status of the STORAGE enclosureas well as the individual disk drives.

TheSSM software which is a standard featureprovided at no extra charge helps systemadministrators to assure that the Netra stD130 units are serviced as quickly as possi-ble in the event of a failure. In addition, theSSM software monitors the temperature ofthe disk drives and generates a message ifthe temperature exceeds the customer-defined warning and critical thresholds. By default, the software places thesemessages in the system log. It is also possi-ble to view these messages on the hostsystem or from any other system on thenetwork by using the provided ssmadminutility. The SSM software is flexible and con-figurable, and can be easily set up to meetthe needs of diverse data center and centraloffice environments.

Rack Mounting OptionsAs with all Netra server and STORAGE products, the Netra st d130 STORAGE ARRAY supports awide range of rack mounting options. EachNetra st d130 unit is shipped with a rackmount kit that supports 19 slide mount,two-post, and four-post rack mounting, including mounting within the SunStorEdge 72 Expansion Cabinet and the SunEnterprise 68 system cabinet. Other rackmount kits are available for 23 , 24 , and600mm CompatibilityThe Netra st d130 STORAGE ARRAY is supportedby Sun Microsystems when attached to anyof the following server platforms:Netra T1 AC200/DC200 Netra t1 Model 100/105 Netra t 1120/1125 Netra t 1400/1405 Netra ct 400/800 Sun Enterprise 220R and 420 RSun Enterprise 3500, 4500, 5500, 6500 Sample Application: Boot Devicefor Sun Enterprise ServerA Netra st d130 unit is frequently used tomirror the internal boot device of a SunEnterprise 220R or 420R server.

It is alsooften used as the boot device or mirroredboot device for the Sun Enterprise 3500through 6500 servers (including the rackmounted Sun Enterprise 4500-R server) inorder to conserve system slots within theserver for other purposes. Customers oftenuse mirrored boot devices for Sun Enterpriseservers because these servers typically runmission-critical applications with stringenthigh availability requirements. A mirroredboot device removes a single point of failure. This application brief spells out therequirements for this application andprovides configuration Customers Choose theNetra st d130 STORAGE ARRAY forthis applicationThere are several reasons that customerschoose the Netra st d130 STORAGE ARRAY as aboot device for a Sun Enterprise server: The small form factor of the Netra st D130storage ARRAY is important, since very little additional rack space is required forboot devices.

The price point of the Netra st d130 storagearray makes it an attractive and costeffective alternative for this application. The Netra st d130 STORAGE ARRAY can beused as an external boot device, whichsome customers prefer. (A disk board ismounted in a system slot within a SunEnterprise server.) The reliability and rugged construction ofthe Netra st d130 STORAGE ARRAY is impor-tant because of the high availabilityrequirements of most applications hostedon Sun Enterprise to an Enterprise ServerIt is possible to connect up to two Netra stD130 units to a Sun Enterprise 3500-6500server. One unit can be used as the bootdevice and the second unit can be used asthe mirrored boot device.

The Netra st D130storage ARRAY is supported as an externalattach and boot device for these , up to four Netra st d130 units maybe installed within a Sun Enterprise 5500 or 6500 cabinet, where those units areconnected to two different servers. Up to sixNetra st d130 units may be installed withina Sun Enterprise 4500-R cabinet, wherethose units are connected to three differentservers. The Netra st d130 STORAGE ARRAY can beconnected to a Sun Enterprise 3500-6500servers via either the on-board SCSI hostinterface (a component that is built into anI/O board) or a SCSI host adapter card (anoptional add-in card).
