It also describes how to transfer files between a computerrunning the NCT and otherwise specified, the term NxE in this document refers to Network Automation Engines(NAEs), Network Control Engines (NCEs), and Network Integration Engines (NIEs).

4 The NCT is required if you want to access an NxE55 engine at Release or earlier withRemote Desktop. To improve network security, the capability to access an NxE55 from anyWindows computer on the building network with the Remote Desktop Connection applicationhas been disabled. The NxE55xx-2 and NxE55xx-3 engines at Release that run the Linuxoperation system use a different remote connection type called secure shell (SSH). The NCT hasan SSH option to access these network engines. The NCT identifies the Metasys software release version and build number when a compatibleNxE is discovered.
5 The NCT can discover NxEs on your Metasys networks. You can also use SCT for device discovery. The NCT can run on a computer at the same time as the NAE/NIE Update Tool. Multiple instances of the NCT can run at the same time on the same computer. Discovered NxEs can be sorted according to model number, MAC address, host name, IP address,or order discovered. Advanced users, such as field technicians, should use the NCT for devicediscovery. The NCT can collect device debug files. 9 Typically, you should usethe NCT in Normal mode. Use the Advanced mode with the guidance of your local JohnsonControls service/support representative. The NCT screens in this document are shown in theAdvanced mode to display all available features. Items that appear only in Advanced Mode arehighlighted in gray. See Using the Advanced Mode for more and Connections tabUse the Connections tab (Figure 1 and Figure 2) to connect to the NxE, determine which NxEsare online, and log connection errors. Figure 1 shows the NCT when the NCT is started, prior todiscovery of NxE engines and prior to connecting to an NxE you start the NCT, the Connections tab appears as the default screen.
