The Minister is authorized to execute on behalf of the Government of Manitoba an amendment to the "Definitions" and Excluded Employees provisions of the Agreement with The Great-West Life Assurance Company under Policy No. 330780. A copy of the amendment to Policy No. 330780 is attached as Schedule "A". AUTHORITY The Public Servants Insurance Act, c. P270, states: Group insurance plan 2 With the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in COUNCIL , the minister may establish a plan to establish group life insurance for public servants, or such classes of public servants as the Lieutenant Governor in COUNCIL deems advisable to be covered by the plan, or for any such public servants and their dependants.
2 Agreements with insurers 3 The minister, for and on behalf of the government, may, with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in COUNCIL , enter into agreements with insurers licensed under The Insurance Act for the purpose of providing group life insurance under a plan. BACKGROUND 1. Pursuant to The Public Servants Insurance Act the government has entered into an agreement with Great-West Life Assurance Company to provide group life insurance under Group Life Insurance Policy No. 330780 (the Policy ) which Policy constitutes a revision and continuation of The Canada Life Assurance Policy No. dated July 3, 1999.
3 2. Certain employees of Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation are currently insured under a separate group life insurance plan and, accordingly, excluded from coverage under the Policy. 3. Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation has renegotiated the terms of its separate group life insurance plan such that effective August 1, 2014 all of the employees of the Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation will be covered by that plan. 4. Accordingly, the Policy is to be amended to exclude all of the employees of the Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation from coverage under the Policy. No.. 5. The amendments to the Policy will take effect August 1, 2014.
