5 We are called to remember that every gesture of caring and kindness, even every welcoming smile, which is expressed in our community is an extension of the Hospitality of God. That is as it should be, since this Church is God s House to which we, among the many, have been invited. We who have responded to that invitation need be mindful always of the others who have been invited, but haven t yet answered His call or who are searching for a place where they might be able to respond to God s invitation. As God s faithful children, we need to remember that our Father s unconditional love is meant for all of His children. We need open hearts filled with Christ-like love so that we can truly welcome everyone who comes here searching for a place among the People of God. Our understanding of hospitality needs to extend beyond having greeters at the Church doors or providing a welcome packet to newcomers. These things are important, but they are only a part of what makes a Church a welcoming community.

6 Those who wish to work on this priority will develop some specific plans to help our parish be a fuller expression of the Hospitality of God. While more specific plans are developed, we can all accept our roles in extending God s welcome and care to our fellow members and others. We can ask: How will I share the hospitality of God with a visitor or newcomer? Will I introduce myself and welcome him? Will I smile warmly at her? Will I offer to answer any questions that he or she might have about the parish? And PROBABLY MOST CHALLENGING OF ALL would I be willing to move over and offer my regular spot in the pew to a newcomer? Wouldn t Jesus? For I stranger and you welcomed me. Matthew 25:35 -PJF 2019 If you would like to be part of the group guiding and fostering efforts to ensure that hospitality remains at the core of our parish, please contact Vida Yingling-Thomas or Monica Sergent through the parish office. At God s House all are welcome (or should be) LITURGICAL MINISTERS Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan Workshop Saturday, February 16, 2019 Workshop begins at 10 am, includes lunch and concludes at Noon in Greier Hall and St.

8 Food Bank: Each month parishioners are invited to bring non-perishable food and/or essential household items to the Masses on the second weekend. Our parish, along with three other local churches, supports and staffs the food bank located at Spanaway Lutheran. Our volunteer support and food donations demonstrate our Christian love and care for our neighbor. Please bring your offering to Mass next weekend! STEWARDSHIP A WAY OF LIFE Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time: Jeremiah declares that the Lord knew him before he was born, and dedicated and appointed him to his role as prophet even before he drew breath. We, too, are known and sent by the Lord. What deeds of love and service are mine to perform? The group reads and reflects on a Scripture verse and then responds by journaling in their Bible or companion journal. Please bring either a journal, Catholic Journaling Bible and pencil colors. Feast of Saint Blaise - The day after the candles were blessed on the feast of the Presentation, we celebrate the feast of St. Blaise (February 3rd), the patron saint of the healing of throats. Candles that were blessed the day before (or according to the rite of The Roman Ritual for the feast of St. Blaise) are fashioned in an X shape and used to bless the throats of those who wish it. This is frequently done following the General Intercessions, but may also be done instead of the final blessing at Mass. The latter option might be preferred on those occasions when February 3rd occurs on a Sunday.
