3 Dear Friends, Today s Gospel presents a challenge to interpret in our time. In the example of the wide invitation to the wedding banquet it is consoling that the ones who make the choice are those who are invited. In our culture, the personnel and numbers are the choice of the family and, of its very nature, constrained by finance, the venue and their idea of what is in the interests of the couple. Here, everybody is invited the Father wants the salvation of all he even sends out messengers to the bye-ways (most unlikely characters). Many he says will NOT come because of their own agenda or choice. But it is very clear, he wants us more than we do ourselves.

4 And what are we to make of the wedding garment? Well for me it signifies a personal commitment (YES) to the invitation. To accept the call involves an understanding to help others along the way by sharing our values, gifts and goods they are clearly our brothers and sisters because of this acceptance. And the fact that we all wear a similar garment suggests that there is no hierarchy of honour or medals for achievement in the Father s house and at the heavenly banquet. With God s help let us help one another. This weekend I would like us to reflect on the gifts we have as our mass theme. Following on from that, at Mass let us see the children bring forward gifts for the SVP (local).
