When controls are included, aunit-mounted Human Interface moduleis standard and an option for a remote-mounted Human Interface is Tracer BuildingAutomation System or LonTalk Communication Interface moduleconnectivity is available when usingIntelliPak controls. No Controller OptionA no controller option is offered forthose who need the capability to supplytheir own controller or hard wire to anexisting control system. This allows applied system flexibility with unitarysystem convenience. The contractorinterfaces with the no controller optionthrough factory supplied terminal motor starting gear, protective time-delays and actuators are providedfactory Packaged ApproachThe unitary controls approach with theIntelliPak Roof Mounted Air Handler isbest summarized in one word: easy!Factory engineering and 100 % runtesting assures minimal hassle at unitstart-up. Ultimately this means twothings for the customer, reduced laborcosts at installation and increasedreliability throughout the life of FlexibilityThe multitude of heating optionsincludes steam, hot water, and electric,as well as economical natural gas heat is a feature normallyoffered only by the most expensivecustom air Handlers , virtually eliminatingseparate field provided gas heating options can be configuredin upflow, downflow, or horizontaldischarge from the factory (not electricand only certain gas units).

Additionally,Note: LonTalk and LonWorks are registered trademarks of Echelon gas heat exchanger staging optionsare two stage, limited or full DX or Chilled Water CoolingAnother option that offers greatpossibility in job layout and design is theability to do split direct expansion orchilled water cooling with a roofmounted product. While this feature hasbeen available from others, it has notbeen available with Trane s largecommercial Rooftop products, thoughoften requested. It is a perfect productfor projects with space or weightlimitations as the condensing unit can beplaced on the roof nearby or at aconsiderable distance away on theground. In addition to design freedom, the split direct expansion or chilled watercooling option with remote condensingunit can eliminate the requirement forexpensive extra-large helicopters and/orcranes. Each component can be liftedseparately by a smaller piece ofequipment leading to a faster projectand a lower cost to all Special FlexibilityLike IntelliPak Rooftops, many featuresare available on special request.

Some ofthe available options are: baked phenoliccoatings for coils, copper evaporatorcoils, stainless steel drain pans, totallyenclosed motors, ultra-high efficiencymotors, sloped drain pans (DX coolingonly), hot gas bypass to the evaporatorinlet, and HEPA final filters (no heat unitsonly). Contact your Trane representativefor more details on these Familiarity EqualsMarket AcceptanceThere is great advantage in engineeringan air handler from an existing productline. With IntelliPak air Handlers , nearlyall options available on the large rooftopare also available on the air known reliability, ease of selection, and simple installation of Trane rooftopproducts is carried through to theIntelliPak Roof Mounted Air Handler. Afull range of options means that youhave the right product, at the right time,at a competitive Features Fully integrated, factory-installed/commissioned microelectroniccontrols Unit mounted Human Interface Panelwith a 2 line x 40 character Englishdisplay and a 16 function key-pad thatincludes Custom, Diagnostics, andService Test mode menu keys.

Sensor Modulating Gas Heat 10 year limited warranty on FullModulation Gas HeatRT-PRC019-EN6 ApplicationConsiderationsEXHAUST AIR OPTIONSWhen is it necessary to providebuilding exhaust? Whenever anoutdoor air economizer is used, abuilding generally requires an exhaustsystem. The purpose of the exhaustsystem is to exhaust the properamount of air to prevent over orunderpressurization of the building. Thegoal is to exhaust approximately 10percent less air than the amount ofoutside air going into the building. Thismaintains a slightly positive building may have all or part of itsexhaust system in the roof mounted airhandler. Often, a building providesexhaust external to the air conditioningequipment. This external exhaust mustbe considered when selecting the airhandler exhaust Roof Mounted Air Handlersoffer four types of exhaust systems:1100 percent modulating exhaust withStatitrac direct space sensingbuilding pressurization control (with orwithout variable frequency drives)2100 percent modulating exhaustwithout percent power exhaust4 Barometric relief dampersApplication Recommendations1100 percent modulating exhaust withStatitrac controlFor both CV and VAV air Handlers , the100 percent modulating exhaustdischarge dampers (or VFD) aremodulated in response to buildingpressure.

A differential pressure controlsystem, called Statitrac , uses adifferential pressure transducer tocompare indoor building pressure toatmospheric pressure. The FC exhaustfan is turned on when required to lowerbuilding static pressure to setpoint. TheStatitrac control system then modulatesthe discharge dampers (or VFD) tocontrol the building pressure to withinthe adjustable, specified dead band thatis set at the Human Interface of the Statitrac 100 percent modulating exhaustsystem are:aThe exhaust fan runs only whenneeded to lower building compensates for pressurevariations within the building fromremote exhaust fans and makeupair exhaust fan discharges in a singledirection resulting in more efficient fanoperation compared to return discharge dampers modulatethe airflow, the exhaust fan may berunning unloaded whenever theeconomizer dampers are less than 100percent an exhaust fan system, the supplyfan must be sized to pull the return airback to the unit through the returnsystem during non-economizeroperation.

However, a supply fan cantypically overcome return duct lossesmore efficiently than a return air fansystem. Essentially, one large fan byitself is normally more efficient than twofans in series because of only one driveloss not two as with return air reason for either a return air fan oran exhaust fan is to control buildingpressure. The Trane 100 percentmodulating exhaust system withStatitrac does a better job controllingbuilding pressure than return fanssimply because 100 percent modulatingexhaust discharge dampers (or VFD) arecontrolled directly from buildingpressure, rather than from an indirectindicator of building pressure such asoutdoor air damper 100 percent modulating exhaustsystem with Statitrac may be used onany Rooftop application that has anoutdoor air economizer. However, whenmost exhaust is handled external to therooftop or when building pressure is notcritical, one of the other less expensivemethods of exhaust may be Percent Exhaust SystemCompetitive air Handlers use a return airfan system for controlling the amount ofexhaust air during economizeroperation.

The return fan is in series withthe supply fan and must operatewhenever the supply fan is economizer operation, theeconomizer outdoor air dampers controlthe position of the return and exhaust airdampers, to exhaust the proper amountof air. The disadvantage of a return airfan is that it runs continuously, versus anexhaust fan system which runs onlywhen needed to lower or maintainbuilding static pressure. Also, the returnfan must discharge air in two directions, through the return air dampers and/orexhaust air dampers, resulting in lessefficient operation compared to anexhaust IntelliPak Roof Mounted AirHandler unit offers modulating 100percent exhaust system. This fansystem has performance capabilitiesequal to the supply fan. The FC exhaustfans are started by the economizer soutdoor air damper position and theexhaust dampers track the economizeroutdoor air damper position. Theamount of air exhausted by this fan iscontrolled by modulating dischargedampers at the fan outlet.
