1 School of Accounting Sciences Very Important Notice 1 Registration All new students registering for a vocational post-matric qualification in Accounting for the first time must register for the National Higher Certificate (NHC): Accountancy. The NHC: Accountancy is the prerequisite for a diploma specialising in Accounting , Cost and Management Accounting , Internal Auditing or Taxation. Please refer to section A. 2 All students wishing to register for a BTech degree are referred to section C. All students wishing to register for a Master's degree are referred to section D. Your attention is also drawn to the following: The course and communication material for Accounting -related subjects and modules are o ered in English only. Examination papers are also set in English only. Students who did not obtain at least a D symbol for English second language and Mathematics standard grade at matric level are strongly advised to register for only Communication I and Business Calculations I during their first registration period. Section A: National Higher Certificates NB.

3 Please note that 2010 will be the last time that the University will accept first registrations for these qualifications. From 2011 onwards this qualification will be replaced with a Higher Certificate in Accounting Sciences . Transitional arrangements will be made for students currently enrolled for this qualification to either complete the current certificate or to migrate to the new certificate. All students registering for the first time must register for the National Higher Certificate (NHC): Accountancy (Section A1). A2 National Higher Certificate: Financial Information Systems (Code: HCFIS). NB. No new registrations will be accepted for this qualification.

4 Students who, by the end of 2010 (including June 2011's supplementary examination results), have not yet completed this qualification, will be required to register for the National Higher Certificate: Accountancy in 2011 with special permission. Students, who have qualified, will have the opportunity to enrol for the National Diploma: Cost and Management Accounting or for the National Diploma: Internal Auditing for the last time during January 2012. They may however, apply for admission to the new Diploma in Accounting Sciences as from 2011 onwards. The NHC: Financial Information Systems combines training in Accounting and related fields with the field of information technology.

5 TRANSITIONAL ARRANGEMENTS. Students who have not passed Financial Information Systems II (FSY2M14 and FSY2M25) by the end of 2009, should transfer to the National Higher Certificate: Accountancy (HSACC) and apply for credit transfers for similar modules passed. Students currently registered for the National Higher Certificate: Financial Information Systems, who would like to continue with their studies can, on completion, register for the National Diploma: Cost and Management Accounting (NDCOS) or the National Diploma: Internal Auditing (NDINT) for the last time in 2012. The National Diplomas consist of 10 modules and may be completed in a minimum of one year.

Financial Information Systems I: FSY1M2Y If you have not yet passed this module, you should transfer to the National Higher Certificate: Module 2 Accountancy. This module will not be o ered in 2010. 5. Business Calculations I QMI1500. 6. English communication for ENN1504.
