How does the Scotiabank Student GIC Program work? YOU REGISTER FOR Scotiabank SECURE EMAIL SERVICE In order to submit your Scotiabank Student GIC Program Application you must first register to send email through a free Scotiabank Secure Email Service.

2 This service ensures that all communications between Scotiabank and you, including your personal and confidential information is protected. Important: Register with the same email address you will provide on your Scotiabank Student GIC Program Application . 2. WE BEGIN SECURE EMAIL COMMUNICATION You will receive an email from Scotiabank to complete the Scotiabank Secure Email Service registration process and a second email from us with directions on how to download and submit your Application . 3. YOU APPLY Download and Complete Download, complete and submit a Scotiabank Student GIC Program Application using your Scotiabank Secure Email Service mailbox. Input the information requested in the Application in the appropriate fields. The Application must be TYPED to be accepted. Review, print and sign the Application . Keep a copy of the Application for your records.

3 Submit A. Scan all documents in ONE SINGLE PDF File, in the following order: i. Typed and signed copy of the Scotiabank Student GIC Program Application , ii. Copy of passport pages (photograph page and the last page), and iii. Copy of acceptance/offer letter from a Canadian Educational Institution NOTE: The email should contain only ONE PDF which should include all the above noted documents; otherwise the Application will not be processed. B. Log into your Scotiabank Secure Email Service mailbox and REPLY to the secure email in the mailbox. Your email must include a single PDF file only. C. The subject line of your email must state: Scotiabank Student GIC Program Your Full Name (Given/First and Surname/Last) New Application . This GIC Application must be sent to us directly from you ( Student ) using your Scotiabank Secure Email Service mailbox.

WE OPEN INVESTMENT ACCOUNT Following review and acceptance of the completed Application , Scotiabank will send you a secure email confirming the Scotia Investment Account Number and provide wire transfer instructions (to transfer money) within five (5) Scotiabank Student GIC Program Guide Registered trademark of The Bank of Nova Scotia August 2014 This Guide is subject to change 3 business days to enable you to purchase the GIC. Please allow for time difference, weekends and other Public Holidays in Canada. 5. YOU SEND MONEY FROM A BANK IN INDIA You will be required by the Canadian High Commission, India to remit $10,000 CAD to Scotiabank for your Scotia Investment Account plus $100 CAD to cover administrative fees, for a total of $10,100 CAD. The funds must be wire transferred only from a bank in India where you hold your account (in your own name or jointly with your parent(s)) otherwise the money will be returned.

5 Funds will be accepted only if the name of the sender and beneficiary (recipient) is the same ( the Ordering Customer (name in field 50K on the wire transfer and Beneficiary Customer (name field 59 on the wire transfer form) is the same). NOTE: Funds from other sources such as Money Exchange House, Money Transfer Services, and Third Party Services OR payments received from a third party ( parents, relatives, friend, etc.) are not permitted. Intermediary banks usually charge a fee for wire transfers. Please advise your bank in India that Scotiabank must receive $10,100 in full and any charges/ fees ( wire transfers) will be paid by you. International wire transfer takes about 5-8 business days. Please check with your local remitting bank for a more specific time frame. 6. WE ISSUE CONFIRMATION Investment Directions confirming the details of your Scotia Investment Account and Welcome Letter will be sent to you by secure email within five (5) business days (delayed accordingly for Canadian Public Holidays) after receipt of your wire payment.)

6 NOTE: The Investment Directions include an acknowledgement from a Scotiabank Representative, which includes their name and branch information, a handwritten signature is not included, nor required. You are not required to return (email) the signed Investment Directions confirmation to Scotiabank . You are responsible for printing a copy of this confirmation and letter for your records as secure emails are only available for 180 calendar days before automatic deletion. See Section ll for additional information. 7. YOU APPLY FOR STUDY PERMIT You must submit a copy of the Investment Directions confirmation to the Canadian High Commission, India along with your Study Permit Application . Please refer to the VFS and/or Canadian High Commission, India websites for cut off dates for submission of Study Permit Applications for each session intake.

7 Scotiabank will continue to accept the Scotiabank Student GIC Program Application and issue confirmation when funds are received. However, you must allow for sufficient processing time for obtaining your Study Permit. WELCOME TO CANADA Upon arrival in Canada, you may visit any Scotiabank branch of your choice to open a personal deposit account and to purchase your GIC. You will be required to provide the following: o Welcome Letter o Investment Directions confirmation o Valid foreign passport o Letter of Enrolment from a Canadian Educational Institution (or a Student ID card) o Study Permit ( IMM 1442) Please refer to the Bank's branch locator to select a branch that will be convenient for you when you arrive in Canada.

8 9. WE OPEN ACCOUNT FOR MONTHLY DEPOSITS After confirming your identification/documentation (see above) we will open a personal deposit account ( Student Banking Advantage Plan) and make an initial deposit of $2,000 CAD* plus any accrued interest from your Scotia Investment Account. The remaining $8,000 CAD will be set up in a non-redeemable GIC - Guaranteed Income Optimizer (GIO) - a one year term with fixed equal monthly payments for deposit to the Student Banking Advantage Plan account. *It is the responsibility of the Student to ensure that they have adequate funds to cover their living expenses. The disbursement of funds is scheduled so that you will receive $2,000 at your initial visit. Should you believe that your living expenses will be higher than $2,000 for your first month, you may wish to bring additional funds with you when you move to Canada.

Important Information Regarding Secure Emails from Scotiabank In order to download and submit a Scotiabank Student GIC Program Application and correspond with Scotiabank you must first register to send email through a free Scotiabank Secure Email Service. This service ensures that all communications between Scotiabank and you, including your personal and confidential information is protected. Visit our website to start the registration process. You will receive an email from directing you to the Scotiabank Webmail portal link.

10 Clicking this link will launch your web browser. 1. You will be required to register first by clicking the Register now link for the first time. 2. You will be sent a temporary password to complete the registration. 3. Once you ve logged in using the temporary password, you will be prompted to create a display name and new password. Complete all required fields marked with an asterisk (*). Once completed, click the Save button to continue. If the new password meets the requirements, green checkmarks will display next to each of the password criteria. 4. The Password Hint field is highly recommended to be completed as the Hint will assist with password recovery in the event your password is forgotten. Select a Challenge Question from the list provided and enter the answer in the Answer field. The Challenge Question will be asked in the event you forget your password and request a password reset.
