CALL Seminar: Oracy in Focus The special interest group on Reading, Writing & Oracies , part of the International Association for Research in L1 education (ARLE) organises a research seminar, with the theme Focus on Oracy in L1 education , in Leiden University, the Netherlands, in April, 3-5, 2018. The aim of the seminar is to discuss in depth research on the improvement of oral skills and research on the use of oral skills in all kinds of learning tasks in L1- education . We also invite research in the measurement of oral skills or the use of oral tasks for measurement. The program committee will select after peer reviews 15 research papers for the seminar. There is room for another 10 short presentations with visual support and discussions. The seminar will run from April 3rd , until April 5th, 16:00 hrs. Planned are sessions in which research is presented and discussed (one hour per paper), a meeting with secondary education L1-teachers and their students (oral skills teaching in practice, discussions with teachers and students), network sessions and social events to discuss informally future cooperation.

2 We choose for these dates so that we can visit De Keukenhof, a visit sponsored by ARLE, the best site to walk and talk. Papers and posters must be available at the seminar repository (closed circulation) about March 22nd. The seminar is chaired by Anneke Wurth (Leiden), Byeonggon Min (Seoul) and Gert Rijlaarsdam (Amsterdam). SUBMITTING PROPOSALS Submission started on the 15th of September and closes on the 19th of November, 2017. Abstracts should be submitted via the ARLE conference-system. To submit your proposal, you should register and/or log in to this system. If you are already registered into the system, please login; if you are not registered, please first register so that all relevant data are available into the system. We welcome SEMINAR PROPOSALS 500 words + not more than 5 references, following APA format. REVIEWING All abstracts go through double blind reviewing.
