1 Service Bulletin Product Page 1 of 3 Subject: Inspection of Eaton Components in Flood Damaged Vehicles Document Number: TMIB0153 Date: July 24, 2006 Updated: November 8, 2012 Issue Description: This document provides guidance on the proper inspection of Eaton components partially or fully submerged by flood water conditions. Manual Transmissions Heavy-Duty/Medium-Duty Transmissions totally submerged in water: Replace complete transmission. Inspect shift tower/lever assembly for rust damage and replace damaged components as needed. Inspect vehicle air supply system for water intrusion and repair as needed. Transmissions partially submerged in water: Completely drain transmission lube. Remove PTO covers from transmission main case and visually inspect internal components for rust: o If rust is found on internal components, remove the transmission from the vehicle and replace damaged components as needed.
2 O If no rust of internal components is found, flush per Service Bulletin TMIB0124 and refill transmission with approved lubricant. Inspect transmission air system for water intrusion and replace damaged components as needed. Inspect vehicle air supply system for water intrusion and repair as needed. Automated Transmissions - Heavy-Duty/Medium-Duty Automated Transmissions totally submerged in water: Replace complete transmission, including transmission mounted electronic components (TECU, HCM, transmission harness, XY Shifter, ECA, Inertia Brake, Range/Splitter Valves, Speed Sensors). Inspect transmission vehicle interface harnesses for water intrusion or corrosion and repair/replace damaged harnesses as needed. Inspect vehicle air supply system for water intrusion and repair as needed.
3 Service Bulletin Product Page 2 of 3 Automated Transmissions - Heavy-Duty/Medium-Duty, Continued Automated Transmissions partially submerged in water: Completely drain transmission lube. Remove PTO covers from transmission main case and visually inspect internal components for rust: o If rust is found on internal components, remove the transmission from the vehicle and replace damaged components as needed. o If no rust of internal components is found, flush per Service Bulletin TMIB0124 and refill transmission with approved lubricant. Replace any transmission-mounted electronic components that were submerged in water. Inspect transmission vehicle interface harnesses for water intrusion or corrosion damage and repair/replace damaged harnesses as needed.
4 Inspect transmission air system for water intrusion and replace damaged components as needed. Inspect vehicle air supply system for water intrusion and repair as needed. Clutch - Heavy-Duty / Medium-Duty Clutch was totally or partially submerged in water: Replace complete clutch assembly. Inspect release yoke and cross-shafts for rust, and replace damaged components as needed. Inspect flywheel for damage per engine manufacturer guidelines. hybrid electric Vehicle Systems hybrid electric components totally submerged in water: Replace all hybrid electric components (Motor/Generator, Inverter, PEC, DC/DC converter ). Inspect OEM supplied High-Voltage AC and DC cables for water intrusion or corrosion, and repair/replace damaged harnesses as needed.

Service Bulletin Product Page 3 of 3 hybrid electric Vehicle Systems, Continued hybrid electric components partially submerged in water: Replace any hybrid electric component that flood water came in contact with (Motor/Generator, Inverter, PEC, DC/DC converter ). Inspect OEM supplied High-Voltage AC and DC cables for water intrusion or corrosion, and repair/replace damaged harnesses as needed. Inspect OEM vehicle interface harnesses for water intrusion or corrosion damage and repair/replace damaged harnesses as needed. Warranty Information: The inspection process outlined in this document is intended to reduce, not eliminate, the risk of future component failure as the result of Eaton products being subjected to flood water.
6 Eaton components damaged as the result of being partially or totally submerged in flood water is not considered a defect in material or workmanship and will not be covered under Eaton warranty.
