It would not be possible to cover everycombination in a general product data optimum conditions Spiral woundgaskets are effective across the followingoperational parameters:Pressure Range:Full vacuum to > 450 barTemperature Range: -250oC to 1050oCSpiral Wound Gaskets can be used in flangeswith various flange face configurations. Thetype of configuration is the main determinantof the style of Spiral Wound gasket used. An important consideration when using spiralwound Gaskets is to control the maximumcompression the gasket is subjected to during gasket installation.

Compression can be controlled by the use of a solid metalliccompression stop incorporated into the gasketdesign. Alternatively compression may becontrolled by flange face configuration. The incorporation of outer metallic ringsalso facilitates gasket location especially on standard Class or PN rated flanges withraised and flat face configurations. There are numerous construction standards, morecommon ones include ASME , EN 12560-2 and EN 1514-2 BAM for Oxygen 12/17 Rev4 This Data Sheet refers to the material assupplied.

DATASHEETPDS578 12/17 Rev4 Materials: Spiral Wound Gaskets can be constructed using many different combinations of selection is generally dictated byapplication conditions namely temperature, pressure and media.

In the oil, gas and powergeneration industries a common sealingelement material combination is 316 stainlesssteel metallic strip with Flexicarb (graphite)filler material. However Gaskets made from many othermaterial combinations are commonly guidelines for filler material selectionare as follows:FlexicarbTM(Graphite):Hydrocarbo n and steam service up to 450oCThermiculite (Silicate):Hydrocarbon, steam and chemical service up to 1050oCPolytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE):Chemical, oxygen and clean service up to 260oCProperties.

Spiral Wound Gaskets can be supplied to nationalor international standards where properties arecontrolled by adherence to construction is normally the case for bolted connectionsutilising standard flanges. Spiral Wound gasketsmay also be manufactured on a customised basiswhere gasket style, geometry and sealing elementstiffness are chosen to best suit the flangearrangement, available gasket load andoperational conditions.
