The purpose of this Standard is to standardizethe Symbols used in representing fire Safety , Emergency , andassociated Retroactivity. The provisions of this Standard reflect aconsensus of what is necessary to provide an acceptable degreeof protection from the hazards addressed in this Standard atthe time the Standard was Unless otherwise specified, the provisions of this stand ard shall not apply to facilities, equipment, structures, or instal lations that existed or were approved for construction orinstallation prior to the effective date of the Standard .
