3 Gabriel 11:00 AM Patty & Bob McGee Family 3 Our Lady of Hope Parish Family, Due to early bulletin deadlines associated with the Thanksgiving holiday, I have not yet been able to express my thanks to all of the people in Our Lady of Hope Parish and beyond who have supported us with love and prayers throughout my beloved brother Edward s illness and subsequent passing into eternal life on Saturday, November 13th. The tremendous number of people, who visited us at the funeral home, attended the funeral, and who sent cards and good wishes have left us so very thankful and humbled by their grace and generosity. It may take some time to get back to everyone individually, but please accept my thanks I can briefly express now. We know we do not suffer our grief alone and want you to know we are there for you even as you have been there for us. I know Ed is happy in heaven with my Dad and so many others of our beloved deceased and he felt your love and support as well.

4 These past several weeks have taught me more than ever that in the family of the Church we are here to help one another through all the challenges of life. Your love and support during this time has shown me that, in a deeper way than I ever knew before. With the retirement of our longtime Pastoral Associate, Mary Beth Green, I have hired two people in part-time positions to undertake the roles Mary Beth so capably fulfilled over the years. Sr. Althea Anne Spencer, OSF and Mrs. Cathy Militzer (a longtime principal in the diocese, and mother of current Mother of Mercy Academy Principal, Don Militzer) will each have the title of Pastoral Assistant. Sr. Althea Anne and Mrs. Militzer are charged with organizing the many procedures in place for funerals, weddings, and baptisms, as well as pastoral visits to the sick and, attendance at important parish meetings, support for any needs on our broader parish staff, and a variety of spontaneous and miscellaneous needs that come up in a parish setting every day.

5 We welcome them to the staff and ask you to pray for them in their new ministerial roles. An important initiative from the Pastoral Council and Worship Committees seeking liturgical volunteers begins this week in our bulletin. Please prayerfully consider volunteering! Finally, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception is on Wednesday, December 8th. It is a holyday of obligation. Gratefully in Christ, From the Desk of Fr. Known for his kindness and generosity to the poor , the story has it that St. Nicholas once tossed bags of gold through an open window of a poor man s house to help his daughters avoid a life of prostitution. According to legend, the gold landed in stockings dangling on the corners of the beds, which is why many of us celebrate St. Nicholas Day by hanging stockings and filling them with candy, fruit, and small toys. Not much else is known about this beloved saint, regardless, his reputation as a generous man continues today.

10 Gospel Meditation A Deeper Understanding of Scripture December 5, 2021 | 2nd Sunday of Advent St. Ambrose shares some wisdom on our need to prepare the way and open the door for Christ. You see that when the Word of God knocks hardest on your door, it is when his hair is wet with the dew of the night. In fact, he chooses to visit those who are in tribulation and trial, lest one of them be overwhelmed by distress. So, his head is covered with dew, with drops, when his body is laboring hard. It is important to keep watch so that when the Bridegroom comes, he is not shut out. If you are asleep and your heart is not keeping watch, he will go away without knocking; but if your heart is alert for his coming, he knocks and asks for the door to be opened to him. When life gets overwhelming and difficult and we find ourselves feeling a bit downhearted and miserable, these words can bring great comfort.
