First, it trains malerecruits who have enlisted from the Eastern Recruiting Region, an area east of theMississippi River. It also trains all female recruits from across the nation. Secondly, ParrisIsland is the headquarters of the Eastern Recruiting Region, which oversees the Corps recruiting efforts at three district headquarters and 23 recruiting stations. There are three recruiting districts east of the Mississippi. The 1st Marine Corps Dis-trict is located in Garden City, , the 4th MCD is in Harrisburg, Pa.

5 , and the 6th MCDis headquartered at Parris , the Depot houses a school to train drill instructors and a Weapons andField Training Battalion that serves not only Marines, but other services as Marine Corps Recruit Depot is located in the Southeastern corner of SouthCarolina s Lowcountry within beaufort County, 70 miles south of Charleston and 45miles north of Savannah, Ga. Its 8,095 acres (of which 3,262 are habitable) are picturesqueand sit only 20 feet above sea Corps Air Station BeaufortMarine Corps Air Station beaufort is home to Marine Aircraft Group 31, one of thelargest F/A-18 aircraft groups, which includes approximately 4,200 Marines and Sailorsworking here. Its size, combined with MAG-31 s reputation for tactical proficiency, hasearned the Air Station the title Fightertown. The Naval Hospitalcommand consists of the Naval Base andtwo Branch Medical Clinics, one atMarine Corps Recruit Depot, ParrisIsland, and the other at Marine CorpsAir Station on the grounds of the NavalHospital are 53 family housing units,two Bachelor Enlisted Quarters able toaccommodate 190 residents, a NavyExchange retail store, optical shop,vending machine courts, gas station anda mini-mart. This command also has acomplete Public Works facility. Recre-ational facilities include: Special Ser-vices office, softball fields, swimmingpool, lighted tennis and basketballcourts, outdoor fitness court, fishingpier, children s playground, and a picnicarea with sheltered barbecue Hospital beaufort administersTRICARE, the Department of Defense smanaged health care program for activeduty members, military families andretirees.
