The Alien Periodic Table - New Providence School District

Alien Periodic Table Problem: Imagine that the inhabitants of another planet send a message to Earth that contains information about 30 elements. However, the message contains different names and symbols than those used on Earth. Which elements on the Periodic Table do these Alien names represent? Procedure: Listed below are data on the chemical and physical properties of 30 elements. Use the clues to place the elements in their proper position in the blank Periodic Table . The Noble gases are Fatimagen (F), Ransomine (R), Hightilium (H), and Christonium (C). Among these gases, Ransomine has the greatest atomic mass and Fatimagen the least.

1 Alien Periodic Table Problem: Imagine that the inhabitants of another planet send a message to Earth that contains information about 30 elements.

Christonium is lighter than Hightilium. The most reactive group of metals are Deerrium (D), Aaliygon (A), Rebeccobon (Re), and Swagisium (S). Of these metals, Rebeccobon has the lowest atomic mass. Swagisium is in the same period as Ransomine. Priscillium (P), Joshon (J), and Louisium (L) are nonmetals whose atoms typically gain or share one electron. Joshon is in the same period as Swagisium and Ransomine. The metalloids are Jadium (Ja), Gregorium (G), Hadiyogen (Ha), and Tahivium (T). Tahivium is the metalloids with the greatest atomic mass. Jadium is the semimetal with the lowest atomic mass. Gregorium and Hadiyogen are in Group 14.

Hadiyogen has more protons than Gregorium. Myalanium (M) touches the zigzag line, but it s a metal, not a metalloid. The lightest element of all is called Bluiesium (B). The heaviest element in the group of 30 elements is Nkeanium (N). The most chemically active nonmetal is Priscillium. Louisium reacts with Aaliygon to form Table salt. The element Figueragen (Fg) has only 4 protons in its atoms. Name: _____ Period: _____ Partner: _____ 2 Hikmalium (Hm) is important in the chemistry of life. It forms compounds made of long chains of atoms. Welshonium (W) and Lotannium (La) are meals in the fourth period, but Welshonium is less reactive than Lotannium.

Sheridium (Sh), Rashidium (Ra), and Tahivium are all members of Group 15. Rashidium has fewer total electrons than Sheridium. Oseinium (O), Stephomine (St), and Daiwuanium (Da) all gain 2 electrons when they react. Daiwuanium is found as a diatomic molecule and has the same properties as a gas found in Earth s atmosphere. Stephomine has a lower atomic number than Oseinium. The element Chanogen (Ch) has atoms with a total of 49 electrons. Waligen (Wa) and Autonium (Au) lose two electrons when they react. Waligen is used to make lightweight alloys. Alien Periodic Table 11812 131415161723453 Alien Periodic Table Conclusion Questions Answer the following questions on Drive and place in your science period 8 folder.

Name this file Alien Periodic Table Conclusion Questions 1. List the earth names and Alien names for the 30 elements in order of atomic number. (see Table at the end of packet) 2. Were you able to place some elements within the Periodic Table with just a single clue? Explain how using examples. 3. Why did you need two or more clues to place other elements? Explain using examples. 4. Why could you use clues using atomic mass to place elements, even though the Table is not based on atomic mass? 5. Which group of elements would you expect to react with the elements in group 1? Explain. 6. Notice that period 5 is incomplete on the Alien Periodic Table .

Create names and symbols for each of the missing elements. Then, compose a series of clues that would allow another student to identify these elements. Make your clues as precise as possible. 1-Sentence Reflection: I learned 4 Answers: Write the correct Earth name for the Alien elements.
