5 *Please Note St. John the Evangelist Bake Sale: that was scheduled for Saturday, February 9th has been rescheduled to February 16th due to weather conditions. Baked Goods or monetary donations would be greatly appreciated. All donations may be brought to the Bay Roberts Mall on Saturday morning between 9 and 9:30 am or delivered to any member. Thank you for your support. Introducing Contemporary Worship at St. Matthew s! Beginning on Sunday February 17th at 11 am, we will be having monthly contemporary worship services, specially designed for young families. While still a service of Holy Eucharist, this liturgy will be shortened and will contain more music, led by our newly formed worship band. We are hoping to offer something different to the people of our community that will compliment what we are already doing at St. Matthew s. Please spread the word to those who might be interested! Parish Annual Meetings will take place as follows: St.

6 John the Evangelist on February 24 and St. Matthew s on March 3. As always, the meeting will follow the 11 am liturgy of the day with a potluck lunch followed by business. Please mark your calendars! The Parishes of Bay Roberts-Coley s Point, Port de Grave and Resurrection will hold the Lenten Quiet Day on Saturday, March 2nd from 10 am 2 pm at St. John the Evangelist Hall. The leader for the day will be the Reverend Dr. Joanne Mercer, Professor of Theology at Queen s College. There is no cost for the day, but if you plan on attending please contact Reverend Amanda for lunch purposes. Come along as we prepare ourselves for this most holy season. Ash Wednesday: While it s hard to believe, Ash Wednesday is on February 13. This marks the beginning of Lent and it reminds us of our mortality and of our need of repentance before God. As such there will be a service of Holy Eucharist and imposition of Ashes at St.

7 Matthew s at 7:30 pm. Come along as we mark the beginning of the Holy Lenten Season together. Confirmation 2013 Class will begin on Tuesday, February 26, 6 pm with a pot luck supper at St. John the Evangelist Hall, Coley s Point. This dinner is for Confirmation candidates and your parents and you don t need to bring anything! This is an extremely important first meeting and all candidates and parents are expected to attend. See you there! Lenten Bible Study: While it s hard to believe, Lent is just around the corner. Our Lenten Bible Study is entitled Facing the Cross and it will begin on Wednesday, February 20th at 10:30 am. Topics we will cover include: Facing our Sins, Facing our Temptations, Facing our Fears, Facing our Worldliness, Facing One Another and Facing our Suffering. Lent is about focusing on our spiritual lives, so why not make Bible Study part of your Lenten discipline this year?

St. John the Evangelist Vestry is seeking a new hall caretaker. The duties of the hall caretaker include: Cleaning the hall regularly (at least twice monthly) Taking stock of the ordering necessary cleaning supplies Opening and closing the building after any rentals and weekly events. Checking for any damage to the building and/or property before locking up Taking payments for hall rentals, writing receipts, and taking money to the envelope secretary no later than the day following the rental. Bringing any maintenance concerns to the attention of either of the two wardens Arranging necessary snow clearing for the hall lot, through the people s wardens.

9 The ability to do minor repairs and maintenance would be an asset Please note the hall caretaker is responsible to the Incumbent of the Parish and the Wardens of St. John the Evangelist Church .
