For the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), see par. B. 1. Tour Length Establishment The standard tour length for a DoD Service member stationed oconus is 36 months in an accompanied tour and 24 months in an unaccompanied, with the exceptions of Hawaii and Alaska, which are 36 months for either accompanied or unaccompanied Tours . Military Departments or Combatant Commands may provide conclusive evidence that a specific tour must be shorter tour (refer to DoDI , Encl. 7). An overseas tour length is established as specified in DoDI , Encl.

2 4, par. 1. 2. Tour Length Change Submit a tour-length change proposal as specified in DoDI , Encl. 4, par. 1. Do not submit a tour-length change proposal to the Per Diem, Travel and Transportation Allowance Committee (PDTATAC). 3. Reserve Component (RC) Exception RC members authorized permanent change of station (PCS) allowances, as specified in the Joint Travel Regulations (JTR), paragraphs 030302 or 032301, for an overseas assignment, are not required to serve the established tour length for the country or overseas area where assigned. See DoDI , Encl. 4, par. (October 28, 2015). 4. Tour Lengths and Exceptions The table below specifies tour Lengths oconus for a DoD Service member only. Tour Lengths are given in months.

A Service member executing a 24-month accompanied tour to this area must be provided an opportunity, once in Bahrain, to assess within 90 of from the Service member s arrival date whether the he or she believes that the security conditions under which the family will reside are consistent with the family s expectations and personal level of comfort and wellbeing.

5 A Service member may elect to return dependents to the CONUS as specified in DoDI , Encl. 5, par. 6c(5), and the JTR, par. 050804, at no cost to the Service member and serve the 12-month unaccompanied tour. ASD (M&RA) memo dated May 19, 2017, authorized an 18-month unaccompanied tour length for 12 billets in Bahrain for Naval Forces Central Command, based upon the billets specific operational requirements per DoDI , Encl. 7, Note 2. This 18-month tour expires May 19, 2019, unless recertified.
