TRASH SERVICES FOR ANCHORAGE RESIDENTS

1 TRASH SERVICES . FOR ANCHORAGE RESIDENTS . The City and Republic SERVICES (dba Industrial Disposal) remind RESIDENTS that TRASH , recycling, and yard waste should be placed curbside no sooner than the evening before the service and no later than 6:30 the day of service. Receptacles should be removed from the street the evening of the pickup. With all of these SERVICES provided our RESIDENTS , it is important to know how homeowners can contribute to the best possible service: TRASH . Hauler will collect from the back door of the home as long as it is no more than 20 feet from the end of the drive. Back door collection does not include entering a garage or home to collect waste.

2 RESIDENTS may pull TRASH to the curb if they do not want trucks on their drive. It will be necessary to take cans to the curb if there are low hanging wires across the drive or if the drive is blocked by other vehicles. TRASH service is for normal household TRASH and does not include construction materials. Each household may set out four 30-gallon cans or eight TRASH bags not to exceed 40 pounds per container or bag. Republic SERVICES cannot dispose of hazardous materials like oil-based paint. To dispose of hazardous materials, call a recycling center. The TRASH haulers can pick up latex or water-based paint containers that have been dried out or filled with kitty litter or sawdust to absorb the paint.

3 Be sure to remove lids and enclose in a plastic bag for disposal. New homeowners need to contact Republic SERVICES at 638-9000 to initiate service. YARD WASTE. Picked up curbside on Thursdays. Each household is allowed 16 bags not to exceed 50 pounds, or 5 carts, or 8 level cans no heavier than 30 pounds. Tree limbs and sticks must be bundled in 3-foot lengths, limbs no larger than 6 in diameter. The haulers will not pick up dirt, stumps, mulch, trees, fencing, etc. Make sure bags are of sufficient strength to contain without breakage. RECYCLING. Picked up curbside on Thursdays. Recycling collection only is on a sign-up basis at no extra cost to the resident .

4 Stop by City Hall to sign-up or send an email requesting recycling service to Boxes should be broken down flat. Republic SERVICES takes all plastics with the numbers 1 through 7 on the bottom. Rinse out plastic containers. Other acceptable items include: aluminum beverage containers, tin food cans, glass bottles and jars, newspaper, slick advertisements, broken down cardboard, phone books, and magazines. Items not acceptable: plastic (grocery) bags, Styrofoam, 5-gallon buckets, oil- based paint, motor oil, plastic cutlery, ceramics, mirrors, plastic TV trays, window glass, light bulbs, and pump sprayers from plastic bottles.

5 Recycling carts can ordered from Republic SERVICES at 638-9000. The recycling carts have yellow lids. Do not use them for yard waste or TRASH . SPECIAL PICK-UPS. For large items (furniture, carpets, appliance, etc.) contact Republic SERVICES at 638-9000.
