ISO 1874: PA 66+PA 6, MFHR, 14-040 N3 Processing information for the injection moulding of Grilon TS V0 This technical data sheet for Grilon TS V0 providesyou with useful information on material preparation, machine requirements, tooling and PREPARATIONG rilon TS V0 is delivered dry and ready for proc-essing in sealed, air tight packaging. Predrying isnot , undamaged bags can be kept over a longperiod of time in storage facilities which are dry, protected from the influence of weather and wherethe bags can be protected from and safetyDetailed information can be obtained from the material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) which can berequested with every material TS V0 is dried and packed with a moisturecontent of %. Should the packaging becomedamaged or be left open too long, then the materialmust be dried.

A too high moisture content can beshown by a foaming melt, excessive nozzle drooland silver streaks on the moulded can be done as follows:Temperature:max. 80 CTime:4 - 12 hoursDew point of the dryer:-25 CTemperature:max. 100 CTime:4 - 12 hoursDrying timeIf there is only little evidence of foaming of the meltor just slight silver streaks on the part, then theabove mentioned minimal drying time will be suffi-cient. If material is stored open for days, showsstrong foaming, unusually easy flow, streaks or arough surface on the moulded part, then the maxi-mum drying time is streaks can also be caused byoverheating of the material (over 300 C)or by too long melt residence time in temperaturePolyamides are affected by oxidation at tempera-tures above 80 C in the presence of oxygen.

Visibleyellowing of the material is an indication of oxida-tion. Hence, temperatures above 80 C for desiccantdryers and temperatures above 100 C for vacuumovens should be avoided. In order to detect oxida-tion it is advised to keep a small amount of granu-late (light colours only !) as a comparison longer residence times (over 1 hour) hopperheating or a hopper dryer (80 C) is of regrindGrilon TS V0 is a thermoplastic material . Hence, incomplete mouldings as well as sprues and run-ners can be reprocessed. The following pointsshould be observed: V0 rating is no longer guaranteed Moisture absorption Grinding: Dust particles and particle size distri-bution Contamination through foreign material , dust, oil, etc. Level of addition to original material Colour variation Reduction of mechanical propertiesWhen adding regrind, special care has to be takenby the REQUIREMENTSG rilon TS V0 can be processed economically andwithout problems on all machines suitable for protected and corrosion resistant, universalscrews with shut-off nozzles are recommended (3zones).

Length:18 D - 22 DCompression ratio:2 - volumeThe metering stroke (less decompression distance)must be longer than the length of the volume = - x(max. shot volume of injection unit)ScrewSelecting the injection unit!Desiccant dryerVacuum oven4 HeatingAt least three separately controllable heatingzones, capable of reaching cylinder temperaturesup to 350 C. Separate nozzle heating is neces-sary. The cylinder flange temperature must becontrollable (cooling).NozzleOpen nozzles are simple, allow an easy melt flowand are long lasting. There is however, the dangerthat during retraction of the screws following injec-tion of the melt, air maybe drawn into the barrel(decompression). For this reason, needle shut-offnozzles are often forceAs a rule of thumb the clamping force can be esti-mated using the following formula:TOOLINGThe design of the mould tool should follow thegeneral rules for unreinforced the mould cavities common mould tool steelquality ( hardened steel) which has been hard-ened to level of 56 HRC is necessary.

We recom-mend additional wear protection in areas of highflow rates in the tool ( pin point gates, hot run-ner nozzles).Demoulding / Draft angleAsymmetric demoulding and undercuts are to beavoided if possible. Generous provision should bemade for ejection with many large pins or a stripperplate. Draft angles for the inner and outer wall be-tween and 3 is usually sufficient. Texturedsurfaces require a larger draft angle (1 per depth of roughness).Gate and runnerTo achieve the best mould filling and avoid sinkmarks, a central gate at the thickest section of themoulding is recommended. Pin point (direct) ortunnel gates are more economical and more com-mon with technical avoid premature solidification of the melt anddifficult mould filling, the following points should beconsidered: x thickest wall section of the injectionmoulding part x thickest wall section of the injectionmoulding part (but minimum 4 mm)VENTINGIn order to prevent burning marks and improveweld line strength, proper venting of the mouldcavity should be provided (venting channels on theparting surface dimensions: Depth mm, width2 - 5 mm).

PROCESSINGM ould filling, post pressure and dosingThe best surface finish and a high weld linestrength are achieved when a high injection speedand a sufficiently long post pressure time are injection speed should be regulated so as toreduce towards the end of the filling cycle in orderto avoid burning. For dosing at low screw revolu-tions and pressure the cooling time should be machine settingsIn order to start up the machine for processingGrilon TS V0, the following basic settings can berecommended:Flange60 - 80 CZone 1265 CZone 2265 CZone 3260 CNozzle260 CTool80 CMelt260 - 270 CInjection speedmediumHold-on pressure (spec.) 300 - 800 barDynamic pressure (hydr.) 5 - 15 barScrew speed50 - 100 kN1) x projected area (cm2)1) for a cavity pressure of 750 barClamping forceGate diameterRunner diameterTemperaturesPressures / Speeds5 CUSTOMER SERVICESEMS-GRIVORY is a specialist in polyamide synthe-sis and the processing of these materials.
