1 Columbus Gardens 410-256-2737 David Bellistri Volume 63 Vigilant Knight Official Publication of Cardinal Gibbons Council No. 2521 Instituted February 8, 1924 4301 Klosterman Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21236 Home of Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William E. Lori and Immediate Past State Deputy Steve Cohen To Jesus Through Mary September Number 9 Chaplain s Message On August 6 the Church celebrates the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, commemorating Jesus taking the apostles Peter, James and John up Mount Tabor, where they saw Jesus in a glorified state. It was a gift to the Lord before his Passion, but also to the apostles who would later witness Jesus sufferings and death.

2 The transfiguration is also celebrated as the fourth of the Luminous Mysteries of the rosary. As we reflect on those new mysteries, we become aware of how Jesus divinity was made known during his public life. After the event, Jesus and the apostles return to their evangelizing mission. While on this earth, we may be graced with moments when we sense God s majesty and what is promised to us, but we must still go about our daily tasks. We are still on the faith journey of a pilgrim. As Knights and Ladies may our faith always be the inspiration for our good works, our faith in action. When we try to make life s journey a real pilgrimage we open ourselves to seeing God s hand at work in our lives, and in so many events of life.

3 When we are going about our K of C work let us always ask the Lord to be there with us. Vivat Jesus! Grand Knight 's MessageMy Brothers & Sisters,This fraternal year of 2018-2019 has gotten off to a good start! The Open House that was held at the Council on July 25 was a success - 3 Catholic men signed the Form 100, been interviewed, and are ready to become Knights at the next 1st or Admissions Degree. The 5th Sunday Mass on July 29 at St. Michael The Archangel was well attended by members and a record number of members and their wives attended the breakfast afterward at the Overlea Diner- 22 people in all; this is the largest gathering for this breakfast that I remember since I transferred to the Council in 2009.

4 The Council 's Annual Family Picnic was also well attended on Saturday, August 4, as was the Council 's Annual Crab Feast the next day Sunday, August 5. Columbus Gardens was the setting for a crab feast on August 8 for out-of-town members that attended the Supreme Convention in Baltimore; for most of them this event was their first time experiencing the delicacy of a Maryland steamed crab! The Maryland State Council 's Picnic will be held at North Point State Park on September 8 from 12noon -5pm, and our Council 's Annual Children's Halloween Party will be held on October 28 from 12noon-2pm at Columbus Council 's Soccer Shootout will take place on September 29 - contact Larry Ches for more information at 410-428-5226.
