A few basic rules are worth memorizing for your own Safety . Scaffold Rules: 1. A few basic rules are worth memorizing for your own Safety . Scaffold Rules: 1. Scaffolds must be provided where work cannot be safely done from the ground, a permanent structure, or appropriate ladders. 2. Erection, dismantling, and alteration of scaffolds must only be done by competent persons. 3. The Scaffold should be capable of supporting its own weight and at least four times the maximum intended load to be applied or transmitted to the Scaffold and components.

2 4. A Scaffold must be inspected by a competent person every day. 5. Never use any equipment that is damaged or defective in any way. Avoid using corroded equipment- the strength of corroded equipment is not known. 6. Unsafe or uninspected Scaffold must be tagged as unsafe or dangerous with a red Scaffold tag. 7. Use base plates, sills or footers (or combination) on solid ground; make sure Scaffold is leveled or plumbed. 8. Each platform must be fully planked or decked. Platforms should be a minimum of 18 wide. Each platform unit ( , Scaffold plank, fabricated plank, fabricated deck, or fabricated platform) shall be installed so that the space between adjacent units and the space between the platform and the uprights is no more than 1 inch ( cm) wide. 9. Scaffolding should be tied to the structure using heavy wire or tie-in devices.

3 The first vertical tie should be at the maximum height of 4 times the narrowest base dimension. Additional ties are not to exceed 26 feet vertically. Maximum horizontal distance between ties is not to exceed 30 feet. 10. Use the ladders or stairways provided. Never climb up Scaffold poles or bracing.
