"As Airmen, we are charged with upholding a culture founded on professionalism, dignity and respect that s what our core values are about." -- Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James The original 1997 United States Air Force Core Values handbook (aka the little Blue book ) was published to introduce the Air Force core values to the Air Force.

2 The next evolution of the little Blue book moves beyond the Core Values to provide Airmen with instant access to the Core Values, codes and oaths that guide Airmen in their service in the Profession of Arms. Highlighted and defined in the new little Blue book are the Profession of Arms and Respect. All Airmen belong to the Profession of Arms; we are all accountable for meeting ethical and performance standards in our actions. Airmen must have the strength of character to do the right thing, the right way, for the right reasons. August 29, 2005 The Air Force Flight Test Center flew two sorties from Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi, to test the WC-130J Hurricane Hunters modified propeller under severe weather conditions. Testers flew repeatedly into Hurricane Katrina as it approached New Orleans. Katrina virtually destroyed Keesler AFB shortly afterwards. August 30, 1945 Special Mission 75 ferried 39,928 occupation troops and 8,202 tons of supplies from a staging area in Okinawa to the Japanese mainland.

6 The mission used 259 C-54 Skymasters and 360 B-24 Liberators as cargo planes and associated aircraft. August 31, 1932 Air Corps pilots flew five miles above the earth's surface to photograph an eclipse of the sun. September 1, 1995 The SR-71 Blackbird, the fastest aircraft in the world, returned to active service. It was removed from the Air Force inventory in 1990, when planners assumed that satellites could perform strategic reconnaissance missions. September 2, 1982 After an nonstop flight from Edwards Air Force Base, California, a B-1B Lancer prototype landed at Farnborough, England, for static display. This was the aircraft's first landing at a site other than Edwards AFB, California.
