However the world faces two interconnected and urgent challenges. One is that billion people lack access to electricity. More than twice as many people rely on unsustainable biomass for cooking and heating.

10 This lack of access to clean Energy services creates major barriers to eradicating poverty and building prosperity. These challenges present Business opportunities. The status of the Energy sector and the expected expansion programmes and opportunities available both in South Africa and Africa in general will be discussed. The United Nations In response to the disparity in Energy access launched Sustainable Energy for All (SE4 All). SE4 All is a global initiative co-chaired by the Secretary-General of the UN and the president of the World Bank. It draws the world s attention to three key development objectives for the Energy sector by 2030 - ensuring universal access to electricity and modern cooking solutions, doubling the rate of improvement of Energy efficiency, and doubling the share of renewable Energy in the global Energy mix. All these are developing sectors of Energy which presents Business session presents at high level the state of the Energy secto globally in Africa and provides high level insight on what needs to be done to achieve access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern Energy for all and also gives a glimpse on the opportunities available for Women .
