2 Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, The University ofTokushima, 1 78 1 Sho-machi, Tokushima City 770 8505, Japan, andeFaculty ofPharmaceutical Sciences at Kagawa Campus, Tokushima Bunri University,1314 1 Shido, Sanuki City 769 2193, Japan(Received February 3, 2006; Accepted May 8, 2006; Published online May 12, 2006)The purpose of this study was to assess patient participation in cancer therapy and the sharing of patient informa-tion among the medical care team(physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and especially patients).Wemonitoredthesidee ects of cancer chemotherapy with patients, and developed two support tools: One scored the points of subjective symp-toms(fatigue, anorexia, nausea, etc)by patients, and the other recorded objective symptoms(clinical examinationdata)by pharmacists.

3 It is most important that they attend each patient at their bedside. At this time, the trial was eval-uated by questionnaire survey by inpatients receiving cancer chemotherapy(n 15). As a result, all patients(15/15)responded that this trial was necessary. This trial addressed the following: 1)increased communication between patientsand medical sta concerning side e ects(14/15),2)increased interest in side e ects(10/15),3)when a patient tellsmedical sta about side e ects, they act on it(10/15). None of the patients felt inconvenienced by scoring every day(0/15), or anxiety about side e ects(0/15). Furthermore, all patients(15/15)responded that ``participation of phar-macists in cancer chemotherapy'' was necessary. This trial revealed no problems and suggested that patients related tothe center of medical care.

4 We should be careful in interpreting results of this small sized trial; however, the followingconclusions should be reached: 1)introduction of monitoring side e ects of cancer chemotherapy with patients, 2)de-velop communication among the medical care words cancer chemotherapy; side e ects monitoring; patient participation; sharing patient information; medi-cal care team 1) 2) 2 9) 2,4 6,10,11) 5 9,12) hon [100%]630630 Vol.
