AOX1 gene. Expression of the AOX1 gene is tightly regulated and induced by methanol to very high levels, typically > 30% of the total soluble protein in cells grown with methanol. The AOX1 gene has been isolated and a plasmid-borne version of the AOX1 promoter is used to drive expression of the gene of interest
