The Position Classification Plan The Position Classification Plan The Position Classification Plan (PCP) consists of occupational services, occupational groups, classes in series, specifications or written descriptions of the classes and the rules and procedures for the administration and maintenance of the Plan. Concepts of Position Classification The Position is the basic unit of an organization. It is a set of current duties and responsibilities assigned by competent authority to be performed by an individual either on a full-time or a part-time basis. It may be filled or vacant. Positions are grouped by class on the basis of similarity of kind and level of difficulty and responsibility of work. As a general rule, only the duties and responsibilities of the Position are considered in Position Classification and not the incumbent's qualifications, except teaching positions where the incumbent's education, relevant training and experience and other factors are considered.
