Trump has made engagement in the INDO-PACIFIC region a top priority of his Administration. In November 2017 in Vietnam, he outlined a vision for a free and open INDO-PACIFIC in which all countries prosper side by side as sovereign, independent states . That vision, shared with billions of people in more than 35 countries and economies, is based on values that have underpinned peace and prosperity in the INDO-PACIFIC for generations. Free, fair, and reciprocal trade, open investment environments, good governance, and freedom of the seas are goals shared by all who wish to prosper in a free and open future.
The United States works within the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to facilitate digital trade, improve the ease of doing business, open services markets, and increase women’s economic participation.
