2 Blood Cell Identification Graded Case History This peripheral Blood smear is from a 51-year-old female who had a prior splenectomy for a 30-year history of polycythemia vera. A routine CBC showed a significant change in Blood counts from previous exams. Laboratory data include: WBC = x 109/L; RBC = x 1012/L; HGB = g/dL; HCT = ; MCV = 88 fL; RDW = ; PLT = 25 x 109/L. The blast is large in size when contrasted with the surrounding erythrocytes, and has a moderate amount of basophilic and agranular cytoplasm with a high N:C ratio.
