1 Building a Professional Learning Community through Text Protocols Dale Nowlin Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation Overview This paper will describe how text protocols can be used with Professional Learning communities to facilitate discussion around common readings. The Learning communities were made up of elementary and middle school teachers that were involved in teaching mathematics. This included both regular education classroom teachers and special education teachers at both elementary and middle school levels. All special education teachers were involved in classroom instruction through inclusion programs. The purpose of the Professional Learning Community was to increase teachers knowledge of standards -based mathematics curriculum and instruction.
