Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) clark College's EMT Program is for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the Medical field with a focus on pre-hospital Emergency care. EMTs work independently and alongside their fellow First Responders to initiate basic life support and provide patient care throughout the prehospital scene time. EMTs are required to assist the Paramedic in administering higher levels of care, such as starting IVs and intubating to name a few. Both EMTs and Paramedics work harmoniously together as a major link in the chain of survival. As stated on the Washington State Department of Health Website: The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic Emergency Medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the Emergency Medical system.
