Energy Related Products: External power supply 278/2009. Implementing Measure The Eco-design Directive The Eco-design Directive for Energy-related Products (former EuP) establishes a framework under which manufacturers and importers of energy-related products (ErP) will, at the design stage, be obliged to increase energy efficiency and reduce products' negative environmental impacts. The ErP Directive itself does not include any requirements for specific products. It is the implementing measures (IMs) that provide the prescription for compliance for each product category. Scope of External power supply On April 6th 2009 the Official Journal of the EU published the commission regulation No 278/2009. concerning the implementing measure for External power supplies (EPS). The IM for EPS covers products with the following characteristics: Converts AC power from mains into low voltage DC or AC output Only one DC or AC output voltage at a time A separate device that constitutes the primary load Contained in a physical enclosure separate from the device With removable or hard wired male/female connection, cable, cord, etc.
