This chapter provides a short introduction to computed tomography (CT), covering the main milestones from the discovery of X-ray till modern applications of CT in the field of industrial metrology. 1.1 State of the art X-rays were discovered in 1895 by the German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, who earned the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901.
