A long tradition of sociological research on social mobility seeks to establish the relationship between inequalities in the generations of parents and children. The resources of parents are correlated to their children s chances of social mobility , which implies that the inequalities between parents are reproduced to some extent in the children s generation. In this sense, there has always been an interest in understanding how changes in levels of inequality produced, for instance, by industrialization can lead to changes in patterns of INTERGENERATIONAL mobility .
