These energy levels can only be solved for analytically in the caseof the hydrogen atom; for more complex Molecules we must use approximation methods to derivea model for the energy levels of the system. In this paper we will examine the vibration-rotationspectrum of a Diatomic molecule, which can be approximated by modeling vibrations as a harmonicoscillator and rotations as a rigid rotor.
