Chapter 13 Metropolitan Areas - Census.gov
The general concept of a metropolitan area (MA)1 is that of a core area containing a large population nucleus, together with adjacent communities that have a high degree of economic and social integration with that core. The Federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB)2 designates and defines MAs following a set of official standards.
