C. High density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol Low serum concentrations of HDL-cholesterol are associated with increased risk for CHD. Coronary risk increases markedly as the HDL concentration decreases from 40- to 30 mg/dL. A low HDL-cholesterol concentration is considered to be a value below 35 mg/dL, and high HDL, >60 mg/dL.
