(b) Radioactive Decay: In the time decay of a radioactive substance the unknown is a scalar-valued function u: R !R, where u(t) is the concentration of the radioactive substance at the time t. The di erential equation is du dt (t) = ku(t); where kis a positive constant. The equation says the higher the material concentration the faster it decays.
