2 This oil filledhermetically sealed device makes unique use of foil onceramic in such a way that self cancelling responses totemperature are produced by combining equal and oppositeeffects. This product is sold only in hermetic packagesbecause applications requiring this level of temperaturestability require humidity stability as value of the hermetic enclosure over the molded part isin the long term Performance . The hermetic sealing preventsthe ingress of moisture and oxygen, while the oil acts as athermal WINDOW DEFINITIONThe TCR of the VHP100 is so small that an additionaldefinition - window, has been introduced. The windowdefinition requires that the absolute resistance remain withinthe stated window over the temperature range specified. Theresistance of the VHP100 resistor stays within a 60 ppmwindow over the entire military temperature range of - 55 Cto + 125 C (figures 1 and 3).
3 A window of 10 ppm is available for the laboratory instrumentrange (+ 15 C to + 45 C); see figure 4 - type TRACKINGT racking of the VHP100 resistor is also vastly superior toconventional precision Resistors . Typical 5 ppm/ C precisionresistors have a worst-case tracking of 10 ppm/ C(wirewounds, thick film, thin film) or a difference betweenresistors of 1000 ppm (10 ppm/ C x 100 C) whentemperature changes from + 25 C to + 125 C. For a3 ppm/ C tracking ( Vishay S102C) the difference will be300 ppm (3 ppm/ C x 100 C) for the same temperaturerange.
