3 To provide her with theknowledge and skills necessary for living today and to aid her indeveloping her STATEMENTThe IMMACULATE CONCEPTION PrEPArATOrY school wasoriginally established by Franciscan Sisters from Glasgow,Scotland, at Duke Street in Kingston in 1859 as the JuniorDepartment of the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION Academy. Whenit moved to its present location at Constant Spring in 1942,it acquired its own identity, focusing on the education ofyoung students from four to twelve years of by the teaching of the Gospel and inspired bythe example of St Francis of Assisi, the school communityworks together as a family in close association with theparents for the total development of each foster Christian Attitudes towards work and life, theschool places special emphasis on the following values:RESPECTWe show reverence for God and all creation- and acceptance of self and Through our prayer and actions weacknowledge our dependence on and beliefin God and trust in God to strengthen us in ourcommitment to achieve our simplicity and humility we practice loveof God, others and We achieve unity through a deep sense ofresponsibility honesty and openness witheach OF IMMACULATE CONCEPTION PrEPArATOrY SCHOOLIn 1859 the Franciscan sisters from Glasgow, Scotland, openeda school at Duke Street known as the IMMACULATE ConceptionHigh school .

4 A small Kindergarten and PrEPArATOrY school wasattached to the disastrous fire of October 1937 in which the Schooland Convent at Duke Street were destroyed, the high Schooland the PrEPArATOrY were moved to Alvernia in Cross 1941 the Constant Spring Hotel was acquired for the HighSchool and Convent, but the Kindergarten and Preparatoryremained at Alvernia as Alvernia PrEPArATOrY 1942 the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION Prep. school was reopenedon the porch of the convent by Sr. Clarella with about 10 Clarella continued her good work until just prior to herdeath in staff quarters of the former hotel were gradually convertedinto two classrooms and later a cottage, the former high schoollaboratory, the garage and the old commercial building werealso Martynella Veira joined the staff in 1953 and became thePrincipal in 1961 at which time the PrEPArATOrY school becameindependent of the high new building was constructed and dedicated in 1965.

5 Thisconsisted of 10 classrooms, Activity Room, Library, Office andStaff Room. In 1967 a new classroom was added and theCanteen was built in 1968. The Art Room was the Martynella Veira retired in 1975 at which time Sr. MaryMurphy became Principal. During Sr. Mary Murphy sadministration, the stage, upstairs storeroom, 6 moreclassrooms and the Computer Lab were added. The last twoclassrooms were built in 1996. In the summer of 2000 theoffice was extended and new bathroom facilities built for Grades5 and Mary Murphy left in 1996. She was reassigned to a newministry in Theresa Mendes became Principal in 1997. During hertenure, additional facilities were constructed. These were -Rooms for the Ancillary Staff, a Gazebo to serve as lunch areafor the Grade 6 classes, a Resource Room was established,additional seating for lunch areas were also created, as well asupgraded playing Mendes retired in 2009 after serving the ImmaculateConception school for forty-five Elizabeth Jackson was appointed to post of Principal inSeptember school uniform consists of:1.

9 Roman Catholic students are required to submitcopies of their Baptism and First Communion in Catholic Doctrine are given to Roman , non-catholic children wishing to attend are notdenied. Please note that as a Roman Catholic school , all children aretaught to make the sign of the cross and some Catholic prayers,as well as participate in Christmas Concerts and MayDevotions.
