ICS MAD HATTER S BALL DINNER AUCTION: Not sure about you but I had a great time! Our 23 contributing committee members excelled in all ways. 3 God s blessings on you during this exciting time in our SCHOOL history as we are getting close to the threshold of stepping into a new SCHOOL in a few years! MathCounts and SLUH Math Contests How do you handle having two major math contests in one day? We split our team and had 20% of our seventh and eighth grade students participate in either St. Louis University high SCHOOL Math Contest or MathCounts at SIU-Edwardsville on Sat., Feb. 7. Both teams did a great job and made ICS very proud! A five person team of John Adams, Rob Guetterman, Jack Sainz, Adam Stearns, and Ben Traxler competed against 15 St. Louis diocesan schools at SLUH and won second place team, with Jack Sainz being honored as the third place individual. Lucas Herrmann, Sarah Rose, Mary Wessel and Spencer Biske, represented ICS at the annual MathCounts competition and won third place overall of 13 teams from the St. Clair County region, losing only to the two large middle schools Liberty and Lincoln from Edwardsville.
4 ICS was also named first place team in the Small SCHOOL division of the contest. Lucas Herrmann and Sarah Rose were eighth and ninth out of the 100 students who competed. Both contests utilize scores from all team members, so it required strong performances by everyone for the team to place. The students are coached by math teacher Karen Weiler. What a tradition we have here in academics! ICS SIXTH GRADERS JAMES RAMETTE AND REAGAN HERRMANN COMPETED IN THE GATEWAY CHESS LEAGUE ACTION TOURNAMENT held Saturday, February 7th at The Center for Global Citizenship at St. Louis University. James played six games with a record of 4-2. He finished in 6th place of all sixth graders participating. Reagan played 4 games and finished with a record of 2-1-1. Both faced fierce competition at the junior high and high SCHOOL level with 263 students competing from various public and private schools throughout the St. Louis area.
