Original The City limits of Tacoma were formed in January, 1884, by the consolidation of Tacoma and New Tacoma and were fixed by the Charter of 1890 with boundaries approximately as follows: Commencing at the shore line of Commencement Bay, where it is intersected by Orchard Street, thence South on Orchard Street to North 27th Street, thence East on North 27th Street to Union Avenue, thence South on Union Avenue to South 19th Street, thence East on South 19th Street to Sprague Avenue, thence South on Sprague Avenue to South 35th thence East on South 35th Street to the West line of the Puyallup Indian Reservation, thence North along the boundary of said Indian Reservation to the Pierce County-King County boundary, as established prior to February 19, 1891, thence Northwesterly along said boundary to Commencement Bay.
