= E ÷ 2ðfL P where I E is excitation current in amperes, E P is primary voltage in volts, f is frequency in Hz, and L P is primary inductance in Henries. In an ideal transformer, primary inductance would be infinite, making excitation current zero. As shown in Figure 6, when a load is connected, current will flow in the secondary winding.
