Don had the vision long beforemany others by designing a product that has outlived his legend. Our BMAS eries is named for him (Bullocks Makeup Air). This forward thinking has carriedon through such advanced products as the HTDM, the gas valve technologyavailable on the BMA, and the industrial-quality GIDM product of our products have withstood the test of time.

Makeup air units may, therefore, be required to heat, ventilate, cool, humidify, dehumidify, pressurize, and filter the air blown into the space (supply air). The supply airflow will be either fixed or variable, which can respond directly to different exhaust flow rates to achieve room pressurization control.

This is generally 10%greater than the maximum air volume of the exhaust system for the will allow the room to be positively pressurized. However, in somemakeup systems this may be reversed to keep the space negativelypressurized, keeping odors, toxins, etc.

5 Confined to the conditioned Once this is known, refer to the BMA Series Performance Specifications onpages 4 and 5 to choose the model that can deliver this The corresponding Brake Horse Power (BHP) can then be taken from theBMA Performance Specification Chart, given the external static pressure(ESP" WC). Note: Add the necessary accessory pressure drop(s) found onpage 6, to the ESP. Given the blower HP and line voltage, refer to page 6,to determine the Running Motor Amperage, Inrush Motor Amperage andFull Load Amps (FLA).- Knowing the unit Model Number and MBH capacity, the corresponding gasconnection size can be taken from the BMA Series Specification Table. - Given the entering and leaving dry bulb temperatures or temperature rise, the equation below can also be used to calculate the required capacity = (CFM x C x (LAT-EAT))/1000 MBH capacity: BTUH/1000 (British Thermal Units per hour).CFM: Cubic Feet per Minute of : Gas constant of based on an air density at 75 deg.

6 FEAT: Entering Air dry bulb Temperature ( deg. F)LAT: Leaving Air dry bulb Temperature (deg. F)- Specify the unit configuration by referring to the unit Configurationdrawing. See page room is exhausting 8000 CFM. The desired room temperature is 70 deg. winter design condition for the area is -10 deg. F. The unit chosen is to bean outdoor Direct - fired unit whose discharge is downwards. The ESP is " The line voltage to the unit is 600/3/60. Gas connection is on the righthand :1. The supply air capacity Which unit is capable of delivering the required supply air volume, while notexceeding a BHP of : Because it is an outdoor unit , you will require an inlet louver or hoodand filter section. For this example, we will use an inlet hood with Running Motor The MBH capacity and corresponding gas connection size unit Since the exhaust air volume is 8000 CFM, the supply air capacity should bethe same if no pressurization requirements were specified.

7 Therefore, thesupply air capacity is 8000 Referring to the BMA Performance Specification Table, the BMA 118, BMA120, and BMA 215 are all capable of delivering the required 8000 CFM ofsupply air. The unit must have a maximum of BHP when the staticpressures of the unit and ESP are added together and applied to the : ESP= " (Given)Inlet hood w/filters = " (Page 6) + TSPUse " on the chart to be corresponding BHPs at " .. BHP (Page 4)BMA120 .. BHP (Page 4)BMA215 .. BHP (Page 4)The Units that can be used are the BMA120 and the 5 HP motor will be required for either of the Units chosen. 3. The Running Motor Amperage for a 5 HP motor at 600/3/60 is amps(Page 6).4. The MBH input required for an EAT of -10 deg. F and a LAT of 70 deg. F(80 deg. F rise) is 760 MBH. MBH = (CFM x (LAT - EAT)) / 1000 MBH = (8000 x (70-(-10)))/1000= 760 MBHThe corresponding gas connection size required is 1 The unit configuration is HRB (Page 34) for a Horizontal Right-hand unit witha bottom Direct - fired Makeup Air?

8 Inexpensive to OperateDirect gas firing is 100% effective. In the majority of Gas-Fired appliances that utilize heat exchanging devices, approximately 20% and usually more of the thermal content of the fuel is lost in vented flue gases as well as up to an additional 10-15% lost in piping or ducting. With Direct firing, 100% ofthe fuel s energy is absorbed by the Makeup to Install and MaintainOnly a gas line to the burner and an electrical hook-up to the air blower motor and controls are required. The burner does not require an air gaspremixer. Consequently, installation and maintenance are considerably simpler and more SafeCombustion is electronically supervised to provide shut down in the event of flame failure. An adequate supply of circulating air is ensured by an airvelocity interlock switch or the burner is automatically shut down. Excessive temperatures are guarded against by a manual reset high-limit burner produces no harmful concentrations of carbon monoxide in the air stream.

9 The nozzle design eliminates mechanical devices for mixing Air ApplicationA Direct - fired Makeup air unit is a combination of elements designed to condition fresh air introduced into the unit . This air is then blown into theoccupied or unoccupied space replacing the air that is exhausted through powered exhaust air Units may, therefore, be required to heat, ventilate, cool, humidify, dehumidify, pressurize, and filter the air blown into the space (supply air). The supply airflow will be either fixed or variable, which can respond directly to different exhaust flow rates to achieve room pressurization of a space eliminates:- building perimeters being cold in the winter due to high infiltration- drafts at exterior doors- doors from being hard to open from the outside- uneven temperature conditions in the building space- gravity-vented gas appliances from back venting1 Selection Guide for Direct - fired Makeup AirSelection for 80/20 Units (Available in US only)The BMA series unit can be used as a combination Makeup air and heating unit .

10 A minimum of 20% fresh air must be provided at all times and thebalance (80%) is a combination of fresh and return air.
