Panel labels, thicknesses, finishes and grain directions will be drawings will be issued to you for your comments on the geometry of the building and, if required, also to our structural engineer for his assessment of the structure. Please note that all comments will need to be marked up on the KLH set of drawings REVISION AIn the first revision of the drawings we will incorporate comments from you and from our structural engineer.
If the required amendments are not substantial we will also work on the division of the panels and on the connection joints. 03 REVISION BThe second revision will incorporate any comments on the panel joints and this should be the final revision. At this point you are required to send us the drawings back with your signature and a stamp showing status A, B or AApprovalStatus BApproval subject to incorporating minor amendments with no structural implicationStatus CTo be resubmitted after incorporating commentsAfter receiving your approval, we will produce shopdrawings and send them to the factory for production. Thank you for considering/selecting KLH for the DESIGN , supply and installation of your cross laminated timber structural order for us to start working on your project, we require a package of drawings in PDF and DWG format comprising of a full set of frozen plans, elevations and sections (see samples in the Appendix) showing: Grid lines KLH panels clearly marked, with thicknesses as per quotation All structural dimensions, including aperture heights SSL and FFL of all levels Panel surface finishes Exposed walls and/or soffits Any M&E openings Preferred panel splits (if required)If KLH is appointed for the engineering package as well, we also need.
Our 'Structural Performance Specification' document to be completed Fire Requirements Plans (we do not need fire strategy drawings, as fire ratings can also be achieved with linings: we do need purposely made plans showing fire ratings specifically required for each KLH wall, floor and/or roof ).As soon as we receive all the information required for the project, we will proceed with the drafting PROCESS (the aim is to have no more than three issues) and consequently with the preparation of the be aware that the drafting PROCESS may be delayed if we do not receive all the information listed above. D E S I G N P R O C E S SWSI - Domestic GradeThe surface is planed and pre-sanded. WSI panels are used for visual, load bearing construction elements. This surface is generally recommended for use as visual residential surfaces. The end grains of the openings have a sawn/milled finish and are not finishes apply only to panel faces and not to edges.
Cut-out edges can be chamfered and sanded on site by KLH if required (service not included in the KLH quotation).ISI and WSI finishes only will be marked up in the drawings. NSI grade will not be CNC TIMBER PROCESSINGAll openings (doors, windows, service holes etc.) have routed corners with a standard radius of 20mm. Squared corners can be achieved upon can be predrilled in the panels to a minimum diameter of note that an excessive amount of penetrations might result in additional penetrations are subject to confirmation by the strucutral CO-ORDINATIONP lease be aware that co-ordination between any further manufacturer/trade on site and KLH needs to be provided by the main contractor/architect. Therefore KLH will not allow for any tolerances unless the KLH structure is in proximity of an existing building, any gap required between the two constructions needs to be calculated by the main contractor/architect, providing KLH with the adequate dimension from the closest grid line (not from the existing building).
05 PANEL THICKNESSESKLH panels are manufactured from a thickness of 57 mm up to 500 mm. Panel thicknesses are pre-calculated to meet structural requirements only; they may have to increase to achieve fire rating and acoustic requirements. All panel thicknesses are subject to confirmation by the structural PANEL SURFACE QUALITYKLH panels are not designed to be left exposed externally; they can, however, be exposed timber panels are available as standard in Non Visual Quality (NSI), Industrial Visual Quality (ISI) and Domestic Quality (WSI).NSI Non Visual QualityNSI quality is used for non-visual, load bearing structural elements. Irregularities in the joint pattern, plugged core drills and glue stains are possible. NSI quality is meant to be clad. ISI Industrial Visual Quality The surface is planed, but not sanded. Irregularities in the joint pattern as well as slight glue stains are possible.
ISI panels are used for visual, load bearing construction elements. This surface is generally recommended for use as visual surfaces with lower quality requirements. The end grains of the openings have a sawn/milled finish and are not E S I G N P R O C E S S08 PANEL STANDARD SIZESKLH timber panels are manufactured to a maximum size of m x , the standard maximum length is m and the standard maximum width is m. The width though can be extended up to m if standard budget price is based on the assumption that panels aren't exceeding m length as this allows for the most economical way of transporting to the with a length between m and m and with a maximum width of m can be delivered on a special lorry which requires specific documents and is not authorized to drive on Saturdays. With this kind of transportation there is a cost PANEL SIZE (width x length)Standard x x x a grid is set up to follow KLH panel width, we recommend using a spacing of or (with butt joints) and or (with half-lap joints).
09 GLULAM STANDARD SIZESS tandard sizes for non curved glulams are as follow: Height from 120 mm increasing in increments of 40 mm up to 800 mm Width from 120 mm increasing in increments of 20 mm up to 240 mmWe recommend that you take the glulam standard sizes into account as early as possible in the planning phase. The use of non standard sizes might affect E S I G N P R O C E S SA P P E N D I X - S A M P L E D R AW I N G 1 Keycad file: john pardey architects Do not Scale. Used figured dimensions only.
