1 Page 1 of 3 DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AND PUBLIC SAFETY MOTOR VEHICLE BRANCH Driver s Licence Testing Requirements Testing is required when applying for a new driver s Licence or upgrading your current Licence . Some exceptions apply when exchanging a Licence from another jurisdiction. For more information, refer to the web page Driver s Licences for New Residents. Test results are valid for 6 months. Any Licence issuance or upgrade must be completed within six (6) months of starting the process. Test Type Minimum Age Requirements Written Test -Tractor Trailer (Class 1) 18 Valid NB Driver s Licence Class 5 or higher Medical Fitness Report Completed within the past 6 months Written Test Bus (Class 2), with or without the School Bus (B) endorsement 18 Valid NB Driver s Licence Class 5 or higher Medical Fitness Report Completed within the past 6 months Must be 21 years old to apply for School Bus (Endorsement B) Licence Written Test 3 Axle Truck (Class 3)

3 One (1) proof of identification and two (2) proofs of residency Completed Consent Form if under 18 years old Written Test Farm Tractor (Class 8) 14 One (1) proof of identification Two (2) proofs of residency Completed Consent Form if under 18 years old Written Test Moped or Scooter (Class 9) 14 One (1) proof of identification Two (2) proofs of residency Completed Consent Form if under 18 years old Written Test Air Brakes (Endorsement E) 16 Valid NB Driver s Licence , Class 7 - Level 2 or higher Road Test -Tractor Trailer (Class 1) 18 Valid NB Driver s Licence Class 5 or higher Medical Fitness Report Completed within the past six (6) months and signed by a Driver Examiner A road-worthy vehicle, along with proof of its valid registration and insurance, appropriate for this class of Licence Road Test - Bus (Class 2), with or without the School Bus (B)

5 Months and signed by a Driver Examiner A road-worthy vehicle, along with proof of its valid registration and insurance, appropriate for this class of Licence Road Test Passenger Vehicle (Class 7, Level 2 or Class 5) 16 Valid NB Driver s Licence , Class 7 -Level 1 Must have held Class 7 -Level 1 for at least one (1) year or eight (8) months if a recognized driver education course has been completed (green certificate required). This waiting period is waived if you have proof of being previously fully licenced in any jurisdiction A road-worthy vehicle, along with proof of its valid registration and insurance, appropriate for this class of Licence Road Test - Motorcycle (Class 6, or Endorsement A or D)

6 16 Valid NB Driver s Licence with Endorsement D, H, or I A road-worthy motorcycle, along with proof of its valid registration and insurance o If 550cc or less, the Licence will be endorsed stating only valid to drive motorcycles having 550cc or less o If over 550cc, the Licence will be endorsed without restriction to engine size CSA approved helmet (or equivalent) Road Test Moped or Scooter (Class 9) 14 One (1) proof of identification Two (2) proofs of residency Completed Consent Form if under 18 years old Yellow slip, issued by the Driver Examiner, stating that all required written tests have been completed within the past six (6) months A road-worthy motor-driven cycle, having 50cc or less, along with proof of its valid registration and insurance CSA approved helmet (or equivalent)
